Fred Medina, executive vice president and managing director of BBC Worldwide Latin America & U.S. Hispanic, participated in the 11th Annual Hispanic TV Summit, which took place in New York city. Medina was part of an expert panel discussion about opportunities and challenges Spanish-language TV channels face in building broader distribution. Billed as the single most important conversation about developing revenue growth for the business of Hispanic TV, industry leaders from broadcast, Pay TV, digital and TV everywhere weighed in on ways to differentiate channels, whether linear channels can remain viable without complementing their offer on other platforms, and the growing demand for children’s content in the US. The panel took a look at the ways that mobile TV consumption is changing the face of the industry and how channels can stay ahead of the curve by offering distributors and viewers alike added value in the digital age. Medina discussed BBC Worldwide’s strategy of reaching out to a new generation of Hispanic Americans with its Spanish-language preschool channel, CBeebies. Certified by the Mexican Pediatric Association and airing in 17 Latin American countries, CBeebies is distributed in the U.S. by Dish, Cablevision, Verizon FiOs and Cox.”This preschool channel is the result of the investment that the BBC has done over the years in high quality content, making our company one of the world’s most trusted producers and distributors of multi-platform children’s programming in the world. CBeebies reflects our commitment to the Hispanic community, especially to parents and caregivers, who appreciate our efforts in providing a safe learning through play experience for their kids, while stimulating emotional and intellectual growth, and promoting positive values,” said Medina.
